Governors Island

Governor's Island, a 172 acre island in New York Harbor is open to the public on weekends during the warm-weather months. During its season, thousands of people are ferried to the island from Manhattan and Brooklyn. Located just one-half mile off the tip of southern Manhattan, some of the best views of the Lower Manhattan skyline can be observed from here. Governor's Island visitors can attend concerts, rent bikes, have picnics, view art installations, play sports, lounge on hammocks and deck chairs, participate in dance performances, and tour historic buildings. Once you've arrived on Governor's Island, you'll feel that you've been transported to another land far, far away from the hustle and bustle of New York City.
